"We installed StormTrak™ in Prince Georges County right after the Blizzard of 1996, when we realized that we needed to be better equipped to process FEMA requests. Without StormTrak™ , we had hand scribbled notes, a few excel spreadsheets, and very little coordination of the details that are required to both manage a snow event, and then review how efficient we are after the storm event.We use StormTrak™ to:
- monitor the location of trucks, drivers and the routes they are covering
- track attendance
- track sand and salt usage
- communicate citizen requests of poor road conditions -- to the proper driver
- work with Budget personnel to ensure we are properly funded
- process FEMA requests when applicable
Our public website is interfaced to StormTrak™ , allowing citizen requests for road improvements to be fed directly into StormTrak™ . We can easily view the calls that came in during the past hour, 2 hours and 4 hour increments. This has worked extremely well for us in getting our drivers to the problem location.
In 2003, we decided that it made sense to use StormTrak™ year round -- and put it to the test during Hurricane Isabell . It performed beautifully, as we dispatched and monitored our road crews for clearing trees and debris.
With StormTrak™, all of our information is contained in a single database. We can go back to prior years - and look at the complete history of the event. We have worked with StormTrak™ since "day 1", and we consider Cycon to be part of our "team".
Cycon responds quickly to our calls - 24/7, and assists us with training our District clerks as well. Each year, StormTrak™ is upgraded to include numerous new features. This might include new reports, or changes to data entry to minimize keystrokes.
I can't imagine running our snow program without StormTrak™ - and highly recommend it to anyone who might be considering this application!!"

"StormTrak™ is a very stable, web-based system and works well for us in tracking and monitoring personnel, vehicles, salt and abrasive usage and their associated costs during a storm event. We upgraded to the web-based StormTrak™ in 2005, from a prior client-server version. Some of the features that our end-users really appreciate include:- print or view all reports in excel or adobe pdf formats.
The deployment plan makes it so easy to use-the system is filled with features to easily collect data, without making it data entry intensive. Our management likes being able to take reports to City Council or Mayor meetings and quickly display and justify costs for future budget consideration. We currently use StormTrak™ during the winter (snow and ice) season, and we are planning to use the system year round for flooding, hurricanes and other event management. Cycon Publishing does a very good job supporting StormTrak™ - and is very helpful with designing and implementing interfaces with our existing systems - including Hansen, GIS and AVL ."

"Jane at Cycon has worked with us to better capture salt usage from our 5 primary Salt Domes. Currently, our dome locations do not have any connection with the DC WAN making it difficult to track costs. I recommended that we use laptops to collect the salt usage in a stand alone environment, with our supervisors collecting the data at the end of each shift via memory sticks.
Cycon quickly developed and installed a custom stand-alone salt capture component that runs on our laptops, and the data is synchronized at the end of each shift with the web-based StormTrak -- from the memory sticks. While we look to improve this further, it has worked well for us this season, as we are now able to accurately capture salt usage. The stand-alone laptop component to StormTrak™ is also very helpful in accurately acknowledging spin-offs. Overall, StormTrak™ is very easy to use."

"The City of Baltimore uses StormTrak™ to (a) manage the cost / resources during a snow / ice storm and (b) display maps for internal, and public website access that shows the routes that have been plowed / salted. We worked with Cycon in 2004 to develop an interface between StormTrak data, and our GIS layers. This has worked very well - as we extract the data from the StormTrak™ SQL database, and publish our maps directly to management. Once management approves the map, it is then published to our public website. The interface to our GIS map layers that Cycon developed runs as a windows service -- and executes on a frequency that we specify (generally every 1 to 2 minutes) during a storm event.
We capture the following items - that are then used to create maps:
Vehicles ON or OFF a route / zone
Time of the last vehicle PASS on the route / zone
Time of the last QA inspection on the route / zone
Number of vehicles on a route / zone
Visual display to our end users is critical to the operation of Snow Removal for the City of Baltimore. We are pleased with the results of integrating GIS with StormTrak™ , and we will be working toward integrating our AVL system with StormTrak™ in our next snow season.
